Frequently Asked Questions
Accommodation
Can I book an ocean view room?
With the exception of Honeymoon Suites, One Bedroom Penthouses, Two Bedroom Deluxe Suites and Two Bedroom Beachfront Suites, Bougainvillea does not advertise or sell rooms by view. While most of our studios and suites, do offer an ocean view, some may have a combination view of pools, gardens and/or ocean. We will do our utmost to honour ocean view requests but this cannot be guaranteed.
Can I have two double beds?
With the exception of a small number of deluxe one-bedroom suites that have two double beds, all of the rooms have king or queen size beds. If two double beds are requested, we will do our best to honour the request, but it cannot be guaranteed because the number of rooms is so limited.
Is there any alternative to a pullout sofa?
While the pullout sofas are quite comfortable, if you prefer not to use it, you do have the option of requesting a rollaway bed. The rollaway is a single bed, which is comparable in comfort to a typical bed.
Check In / Check out and Currency
What credit cards do you accept and if paying by credit card, in what currency, will the payment be taken?
Master Card, Visa and Discover Card are accepted. Amex cards can be accepted but will incur a 3% surcharge. Payment will be taken in Barbados dollars. Your credit card statement will reflect the equivalent amount in your local currency at the current rate of trading.
Can I exchange money at the hotel?
Yes. Currency can be exchanged at Reception between 7 am and 5 pm daily.
What currency is used in Barbados and what is the exchange rate to the US dollar?
Barbados Dollars is the national currency. US dollar bills (not US coins) are also accepted island wide and the currency exchange rate to the US dollar is 1.98BBD to the US dollar. Note however that it is against the law for businesses to issue US dollars. This must be done at a bank or at the money exchange bureau at the Airport on your departure.
Does the hotel take a security deposit?
On check-in, a credit card authorisation or cash security deposit in the amount of $400 Barbados dollars (US$200) is required. No charges are applied to the credit card and cash deposits are fully refunded if equivalent charges are not incurred.
Will I get a refund if I checkout early?
Accommodation is non-refundable in cases of early check-out.
Can I have a late checkout?
Requests for late checkouts are strictly subject to availability and can only be confirmed on the day of departure. If available, guests also have the option of booking a day room up to 10 pm. Charges are applied as follows:

Until 2 pm - US$25.00
Until 5 pm - US$50.00
Until 10 pm - US$75.00
Two Bedrooms
Until 2 pm - US$50.00

Safety & House Rules
How safe is it?
Barbados is still one of the safest destinations in the world. However, as with anywhere, crime does occur. You can feel comfortable exploring the island, but please exercise good judgment (i.e. do not wear excessive jewellery or expose your money, do not walk alone at night or in isolated areas etc.)
We remind you that in-room safes have been provided free of charge for you to store your valuables. Safety deposit boxes are also available at Reception.
Can I swim at Maxwell Beach?
Yes. Bougainvillea sits on one of the most beautiful beaches in Barbados. Most days the waters are calm and swimming is perfectly safe. However, the ocean must be respected and there may be occasions when it is necessary for yellow or red flags to be posted to discourage or prohibit swimming.
Can I smoke in the hotel?
Smoking is prohibited in public buildings in Barbados. Bougainvillea's smoke free policy means that smoking in the hotel's rooms, on balconies, restaurants, lobbies or in any place that is not a designated smoking area is illegal and subject to fines of up to US$2,500. To offset the extensive cost of restoring guest rooms to a smoke-free condition, guests who do not comply will be charged a fee of US$200, no exceptions.
Are there mosquitoes?
This is the tropics, and it is impossible to come to the Caribbean and not see any sign of insects. Mosquitoes are not prevalent but can be attracted to visitors. If requested, we would be happy to spray your room, but as the hotel is Green Globe certified, we try to avoid the use of insecticides and aerosol sprays. We recommend the use of a mosquito repellent if necessary.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are not permitted.
Internet Access, Adaptors & Voltage
Is there Internet access?
Yes, there is complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the resort. There is also an Internet Room available to you with access at US$5 per half-hour or part thereof.
What is the Voltage?
110 V - 50 cycle
Are adapters available?
Adaptors can be borrowed from Reception.
Airport Transfers & Getting Around In Barbados
Are transfers from the airport easily available and what will it cost to get to the hotel?
Taxis are readily available as you exit the Arrivals Hall at the airport and will cost approximately US$20 one-way.
How do I get around?
There are several options available. The local bus service is reliable and a very inexpensive option at just $2.00 (Barbados dollars) per person, per trip. The closest bus stop is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Taxis are readily available and there is also the option of car hire.
Your driver's license is required for issuance of a local driver’s permit. Note in Barbados, we drive on the left! One of the large department stores in Bridgetown also offers a complimentary shuttle to Bridgetown, Mondays through Saturdays. Sign-up at the Concierge Desk one day in advance for this service. Note that the shuttle is offered twice daily on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, once daily on other days.
